You’re Very Easy to Love
…even when you are surly, squirrely, and smug / When you are full of contradictions, scattered, and 5, 7, or 22 minutes late / When you’re short-tempered, short-sighted, short-listed, or taking another ill-advised shortcut. You are easy to love despite your disbelief that this is so; despite how you listen to music at an ‘angsty pre-teen’ volume and never fully close drawers or cabinets or your mouth. You are easy to love like a gasp / a great idea / a break in the clouds / a resolving chord / ordering fries for the table. You are not easy, my love; you are all elbows and corners and heels dug in deep and I fear you spend way too much time online. But loving you? That’s a cinch, a breeze, a piece of cake; so wonderfully effortless we all keep coming back for more.
